Chairobics is perhaps not a familiar word for most people, but perhaps from the sound of it you may get a sort of an idea what it is about. Nevertheless, let us begin by explaining what this innovative indoor activity for seniors is:
What is Indoor Chairobics for Seniors?
Chairobics are specially designed (aerobic) exercises which are all done while sitting down on a chair. However, these exercises can be done also at home on the sofa or in the bed in addition to the chairs.
All the exercises are low impact, which means there are no dangers for injuries on the joints, which is very important for the elderly.

These exercises are suitable for both healthy seniors who may wish for such exercise routines and they are also perfectly designed for those elderly who are semi-ambulatory.
The Chairobics Activity Process
Usually the chairobics are taken as classes, perhaps in the local gym or a specialized location. There may be also DVDs which seniors can purchase and watch + follow at home. However, in special needs cases it would be highly recommended to be guided by a professional.
The chairobics routines usually begin with simple stretches and increase in difficulty slowly as the body adapts to the exercises. There can be a lot of isometric movements, which simply means holding a certain position for some time – this is a special type of exercise where the body trains by attempting to keep a certain posture.
Chairobics can be a useful indoor activity for:
- Healthy seniors
- Elderly suffering from arthritis
- Semi-ambulatory / semi-mobile seniors
- Those suffering from sclerosis

Bah, for me personally this indoor chairobics for seniors sounds very silly indeed. I am still full of energy and do much more active things, but then again I suppose there are seniors at different health and age levels so it might be feasible for some. Anyways, thanks for interesting articles for indoor activities in general.
