Teach Yourself To Play The Piano

Posted on May 24, 2014

The piano is an interesting instrument, and is also fun to learn and play. While you may have the notion that it takes years and years of practice to learn to play piano, it actually does not. All you need is to get some musical guidance about the different notes, puzzled keys and chords and with some leisure time, you can teach yourself to play the piano.

Teach Yourself To Play The PianoAll that you require is a piano or you can burrow or purchase a small keyboard and easy-to-play piano lessons. This is how you can help seniors to learn how to play piano and, at the same time, you can help them to get over their loneliness. It’s also a way to help the elderly to get out of the house, meet new people and make friends, and have a new resolution in life, instead of sitting idle at home with nothing but living the monotonous life.

Arranging For Stuffs Before You Start Playing The Piano

  • Get a piano – If you can afford it, or buy an low-priced keyboard instead. When you are buying the keyboard, make sure you buy the one that has 88 keys; the number of keys in a regular piano. Please read our previous post on how to choose a musical instrument to make your job little easier.
  • Buy an easy-to-play piano lessons especially made for the kids taking their first piano lessons. There is nothing to feel embarrassed as Teach Yourself To Play The Pianohere kids use the book; learning piano has absolutely nothing to do with your age. These books have simple step-by-step instructions that help you to learn play piano with ease. After all, your motive is to learn and have fun and not make a living out of it.
  • Arrange for a comfortable chair to sit on. Make sure your arms are in proper position and the piano bench is neither too low or nor too high. Proper positioning is a must so that you don’t hurt your back.

Are You Ready To Play Your First Piano Lessons?

Now you are all set for your first lesson. Make sure you keep yourself away from all distractions such as television and telephone. “Don’t look; don’t answer”, just sit relaxed and concentrate on the directions and follow.

  • Okay, let’s start. Place both feet on the ground and put the chair a few inches away from the piano. Your elbows and hands should be at same levels. Place your fingers softly on the white keys of the piano or the keyboard and do not press it hard; slightly lift the palms. Now, read the directions on your “teach yourself to play the piano” lessons.
  • Look at the keyboard keys. If you’d have noticed they are made up in sets of 4 black keys and 2 black keys with 3 white keys and 4 white keys adjacent to each other. “C” key is in the middle of the keyboard with 2 black keys above it. Now try to play a note. Hit “C” with one finger and go up and down on the keyboard.Teach Yourself To Play The Piano
  • Listen carefully to how each key sounds. Tone is lower in the right and louder in the left. Hit the note adjacent to C; this is D. The piano has 7 notes: C D E F G A and back to B C D E F G and so on.
  • Now, play when you are little bit familiar with keys and their tone, you can play your tones by reading it from the book.

This is your first basic lesson to teach yourself to play the piano. It’s interesting and what you have learned here, make sure you share to your elderly friends who are lonely at home.
