One of the most common problems to people, especially in seniors is long term memory loss. Long term memory loss is one common problem that takes away the ability to easily remember important information, such as important events and names of people. As a person gets older, he or she is at more risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Both brain disorders can be characterized by long term memory loss. As the disorder progresses, the patient affected will suffer dramatic memory loss and other memory problems. For nerve disorders, there will be damages to the nerve cells in the brain that can cause memory problems, including long term memory loss. Some examples of nerve disorders are Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and multiple sclerosis.

Long Term Memory Loss Cause: Trauma

One of the most common factors that can trigger memory loss, both short term memory loss and long term memory loss is traumatic events. Traumatic events can cloud the memory of anyone. To prevent memory loss caused by recently experienced traumatic events, therapies that can help the person forget the traumatic event or help the person learn and live with the recently experienced traumatic event will be done.

Long Term Memory Cause: Addictions

Lifestyle choices of a person can really be determinants of how a person’s memory will function. If there will be improper use of addictive substances, such as alcohol, drugs, and tobacco, then there will be an increase risk of long term memory loss and other types of memory loss. Studies and researches conducted have proven that addiction to drugs, alcohol, and tobacco are linked or associated with long term memory loss. Having some lifestyle modifications can really help in preventing memory loss and even improving brain health.
