Sequence | An Interesting Game To Enjoy At Home With Your Retired Buddies And Family

Posted on January 10, 2012

Games have always been a fascinating and interactive way to our life. It is not restricted with any age limit and especially when you get older, you can always invest your best time with your buddies playing board games. Board games are easy to learn, interesting and they also bring out the zeal and vigor of childhood days’. There are games like monopoly and sequence, which are not only fun to play but also involve some strategies that you use to defeat your opponent. They are multi-player games.

What Is Sequence?

Sequence is an interesting board and card game. It is a fun loving game to the elderly, which brings out an awesome experience. The main aim of this game is to make the sequence. Well a sequence is made up of a connected series of five of the same color marker chip in a straight line; up and down, across or diagonally on the playing surface. It can be played by any number of players but they should be divisible by 2 if you want to play it while making a team. Maximum individual player can play is 3.

What’s Inside The Box?

It is easily available either in Wal-Mart or any game store. When you purchase it make sure that it comes with the following:-

  • Game board where you mark your card
  • A set of 50 green marker chips
  • A set of 35 red marker chips
  • A set of two playing cards.
  • A set of 50 blue marker chips

The object of the game is one player or team must score two sequences before their opponents. If you are three player or teams then you must score one sequence before their opponents.

How To Set Up The Game?

It begins with the player to the left of the dealer and moves in a clockwise direction. Each player then selects a card of their choice from their hand and places it face up on a discard pile and then places one of the marker chips on the matching card on the game board. Each card is pictured twice in the game board. Jacks do not appear on the game card. A player can play on either one of the card spaces as long as it is not already covered by an opponent except when using a one eyed jack as it will be explained in the following paragraph.

Function Of The Jacks In The Game

Jacks play an important role in the game. There are eight jacks in the card deck. The four jacks with two eyes are wild and the rest are anti-wild. To play a two-eyed jack, place it in your discard pile and place one of your marker chips on any open space on the game board. To play a one eyed jack, place it on your discard pile and remove one marker chip from the game board belonging to your opponent. If you hold a card in your hand which does not have an open space in the game board, then it’s a dead card and you can place dead card on the discard pile and take a replacement card but it should be one card at a time.

No Table Talks Or Coaching Allowed In Between The Game

There are no table talks or coaching team members. If a team member says anything that alerts a fellow teammate to the fact that they are about to do something, every member of the team must forfeit one card of their choice from their hand placing it on the discard pile. When the draw becomes depleted, all discard piles shuffled together to create a new draw deck. The game of sequence offers a lot of fun activities for the elderly so, just group together with your retired buddies and start playing this fabulous game.
